Headmaster’s introduction

Building on a considerable academic heritage spanning 121 years, King Edward High School has established itself as the leading educational institution in East Griqualand.

The strong Christian ethos of the school is reflected in the fine balance between loving care and sound discipline. We strive to instil in every child an appreciation of all creation and to foster inquiring minds, eager to gain skills and knowledge.

Children should not simply reproduce the wisdom and facts imparted by educators, peers, books and computers. They should also understand the logic, inter-connections, assumptions and constraints of theory. So empowered, they will be in a position to postulate their own hypotheses and to test and evaluate them.

Educators at King Edward High School engage in a variety of questioning techniques and other classroom methodologies which force children to think and not simply to be passive recipients of information.

We offer a rich and diverse educational experience aimed at holistic development of the entire child – body, mind and spirit. Learners are encouraged to participate fully in the extensive extra-curricular programme of the school including music, drama, public speaking and sport.

Every effort is made to motivate and guide these young men and women to realise their full potential and to lay solid foundations for tertiary study.

Our dedicated, skilled and experienced staff members receive many accolades and awards for the sterling contribution they make to education in the region. However, our primary motivation remains the pleasure derived from contributing to the development of young lives and equipping them for success.
