KEHS vs KC
On Wednesday, 2 May, King Edward clashed against their arch rivals, Kokstad College. Emotions ran high and the usually unperturbed teams were flustered. This was ultimately a game of the mind, skill and heart that simply needed to become instinct. Each game was treated with the gravity of a battle, each culminating in the final fight that the Firsts played passionately. Being a home fixture, the KEHS scholars and past pupils came out in force to support their friends and school.
Our up-and-coming u/14 Rugby team played a robust game of stunning rugby. With good team work and excellent tries, the boys scored a resounding 42-0 against KC. The u/16 rugby boys started their game with an intimidating and creative haka, swaggering onto the field and gesturing with purpose. The teams were engaged in the ultimate contest of strength, speed and skill. In a game that could have gone either way at any stage, the KEHS boys lost narrowly to KC 24-17. The First rugby boys put a new spin on their entrance, marching deliberately and imperially onto the field. True to their dramatic entrance the game turned out to be nothing less than impressive. It was a night where everything went right for them. The boys defended and attacked at will and left no regrets on the field, playing with the tenacity of a pack of wild dogs. The final score was 35-15 to King Edward.
Our u/14 girls hockey team lost to KC 3-0. Our u/16 girls hockey sought to remedy that loss and won 1-0. The first hockey girls played a feisty KC first team. They were evenly matched, playing with determination and spirit - all playing beautifully. At half time there was still no score. Both teams went into the second half with a fighting spirit and although it was a nail-bitingly close game, KC scored the winning goal. Both teams displayed great sportsmanship and heart.
Our netball teams played in the much-anticipated derby as well. Our u/15s played a determined game and lost narrowly 7-9, to KC and our Firsts, try as they might, lost 10-28.
