Exciting Week of Sports for KEHS - 13 May 2024
In the EG Girls' Hockey Challenge on 7 May, King Edward performed very well beating St Monica’s 1-0 and Bergview 2-0. Our girls drew with Kokstad College and St Patrick’s 0-0 respectively. This resulted in a tense penalty shoot-out with St Patrick’s, who ultimately won the tournament.

Wednesday saw our u/13 netball team dominating the court, with a 14-2 victory over St. Monica’s. The following day, our u/16 netball team outplayed Sunshine with an impressive score of 44-4.
Our u/13 girls' hockey team participated in the New Hanover Girls’ Hockey Day/Night Festival on Friday, 10 May. In the opening match, KEHS faced New Hanover, losing 0-2. In a tightly contested game against Lynford, we won 1-0, but lost 0-1 against Scottsville. The matches against Athlone, Nottingham, and SPC ended in goalless draws, highlighting the evenly matched competition of all the teams.
On the same day, the High School rugby teams displayed their dominance on the field. Our u/14 rugby team had an impressive victory against St. Monica’s with a score of 57-0, and our u/16 rugby team had a decisive 71-0 win over Bergview. In the highly anticipated 1st rugby match against St. Monica’s, KEHS maintained control of the game, beating them 70-3, solidifying their position as a formidable force. The 1st girls’ hockey team drew 0-0 against St. Monica’s.

On Saturday, at the New Hanover Hockey Festival, our u/9 and u/11 hockey teams displayed excellent talent and teamwork. Our u/9 team started their day strong with a 2-0 victory over New Hanover. Building on this momentum, they beat Wartburg 4-0, Piet Retief 6-0, Wembley 4-0, and Lynford 2-1. Our u/11 team kicked off by beating Piet Retief 1-0, but losing 0-1 against Eston. Undeterred, they bounced back, beating Wembley 3-0 and New Hanover 1-0.
Saturday was also a day of spirited competition for our teams participating in the Underberg Ball 2 Berg tournament. Our u/7 hockey team faced a tough start with a 0-5 loss against KPS. However, they quickly rebounded with impressive victories against UPS, Lynford, and SPC, with scores of 5-0, 4-0, and 5-0 respectively. In the u/8 hockey matches, KEHS beat KPS 2-0, drew 1-1 against Lynford1, 2-2 against Lynford2, and had a 7-0 victory over King Harvest.
Our u/7 rugby team faced some tough opposition. Putting up a strong fight, they lost 15-5 to SPC, 10-5 to UPS2, 20-5 to UPS1 and drew 10-10 against KPS. On the other hand, our u/8 rugby team delivered standout performances, winning all their matches. They displayed dominance against KPS, SPC, Penzance, and Lynford, with impressive scores of 25-10, 35-20, 20-0, and 40-0 respectively. Our u/9 rugby team displayed competitive spirit. Despite losing 25-15 against KJS, we beat Lynford 45-20, beat UPS2 45-0, and drew 15-15 against UPS1.
