Eastern Cape Provincial Spelling Bee Champion

On Wednesday, 15 August, Tlhoholofatso Ramakoai a Grade 6 learner from King Edward High School travelled to East London to take part in the Eastern Cape Provincial Spelling Bee competition which was to be held the following day. Tlhoholofatso had worked very diligently for the competition and as a result was very well prepared for it. The competition started off with 25 competitors. Each competitor was given a word to spell and if they did not spell the given word correctly they were eliminated from the competition. After four rounds the competition was down to 9 competitors with Tlhoholofatso being one of them.

At this stage the learners were all sent out and asked to come in one by one as they all had to spell the same word. Tlhoholofatso continued strongly and eventually it was just down to him and another competitor. In this final round they were both asked to spell the word ‘egregious’. The competition then ended with Tlhoholofatso spelling the word correctly and his competition failing to do so. Thus, Tlhoholofatso was declared the winner of the competition. He received three medals, a huge trophy and a tablet! Tlhoholofatso is now going to the National Spelling Bee competition in Pretoria and will be representing the Eastern Cape. We wish him well and trust that he excels in the upcoming competition.
