Sixteen of King Edward’s finest also participated in the KZN Athletics Championships on 20 October at Kings Park Stadium. The weather was against them, but even though the wind blew strongly our athletes persevered and did very well with the following athletes receiving medals. Six bronze medals were won by Kamva Nonjiji for Discus and Long Jump, Ngawo Sidaza for Javelin and Shot Put, Lihle Nontwana for Turbo Javelin and Sasha Harris for Shot Put. We earned ten silver medals, won by Anathi Madikizela for Shot Put and Discus, Ngawo Sidaza for Discus, Cazz-Leigh McKenzie for Turbo Javelin, Zandri Jacobs for Discus, Shot Put and Javelin, Lunathi Nyingwa for Turbo Javelin, Taku Chinzete for 800m and Ethan Loubser for Shot Put. Finally we won six gold medals, Cebo Zibi for 100m Hurdles, Sasha Harris for Javelin, Joshua Sweetnam for Shot Put and Discus, and Rebecca de Burgh for Shot Put and Discus. We would like to thank Mr and Mrs Sweetnam from Sondela and Pick’nPay for sponsoring breakfasts and refreshments for our well-deserving athletes. It is highly appreciated.
