Rugby Festival at Sarel Cilliers High School

The three KEHS high school rugby sides travelled to Glencoe on Friday. Saturday saw the first side, the u/16 and u/14 teams all play matches. The First Team had a great start to the season. They withstood an initial aggressive onslaught from Welkom High School and came back strongly to outlast Welkom. Some excellent tries were scored by both sides. KEHS, however, was the better of the two teams and won the highly entertaining game 24 -18. While at the Rugby Festival a Mr Moller came to watch the King Edward first team match. He had played for King Edward's First Team in 1962. When he had word that King Edward was playing in the tournament he thought he just had to come and support. Once a King Edwardian, always a King Edwardian!

The u/16 team had a rusty first half, and conceded one try. They however managed to equalize just before the break. The second half was much improved but the game remained very tight. KEHS managed to get one score in the form of a penalty kick, resulting in KEHS winning 8-5.
Although the u/14 team faced an immense challenge, they played hard and well, never giving up but did lose their game against Sarel Cilliers A team 32-0.
