KEHS lifts the EG Challenge trophy
Last week, Tuesday, King Edward High School’s First Girls Hockey Team participated in the annual EG Hockey Challenge. KEHS beat St Patricks 3-0 and Kokstad College beat St Monicas 1-0 in the first round of matches. This set up a final between King Edward and Kokstad College.
In the final, the two teams engaged in a superb game of hockey. By full time the scores were even with neither of the teams conceding a goal.
A penalty shootout ensued. Scores were still even after each team managed to slot two of their three attempts. With the outcome of the match poised on a knife edge, the two teams lined up for a sudden death penalty shoot out. King Edward scored on their first attempt after Kokstad College failed to score on theirs. King Edward were thus the EG Challenge victors. Congratulations to the players, coach Dr Duminy and Team Manager Mrs Du Randt. A big thank you to the organisers as well as to all those who supported the girls and the event! Our dedicated and skilled coach, together with the talented players are enjoying an outstanding season having also won the Spar Tournament earlier.
