22 Records broken at KEHS Inter-house
On 3 and 4 August, King Edward High School held their annual Inter-house Athletics meeting. After two days of wonderful athletics, there is little wonder that 22 records were broken, some that have been standing for up to 50 years.
Here are some of the highlights:
Zhanique Sissing broke Sally Busby’s 1988 girls u19 high jump record, setting it at 1,51m. Kayla Harris had a field day. She smashed Mandy Francis’ 1993 discus record for the girls u17 (adding 8,69m to the existing record) and also improved Mandy’s 25 year old girls u17 shotput record to 11,65m. Not to be outdone, Aaron Lombard broke the 1965 boys u17 discus record held by Eugene Hayes, setting it at 47,08m, and improved the boys u17 shotput record by 4,11m. U12 learner Joshua Sweetnam broke three records – discus, shotput and javelin. The 1991 shotput record that he broke was previously held by his father.
