King Edward - Spar Champions
With most Covid restrictions lifted, sport is in full flow at King Edward High School, and just like that another weekend filled with television worthy sport happened – this time with television, cameras and a full production crew. King Edward High School (KEHS) hosted the regional SPAR Hockey tournament. As predicted, we were blessed with intermittent showers of rain. In African culture, rain is seen as a blessing and a good forecast.
There were 10 teams in total competing, and these teams were divided into two equal groups. A little bit like the CAF championship. First up for KEHS was Creston College which we beat 1:0. Then following in quick succession our firsts beat KEHS U16 2:0; St Monica’s 3:0; Ixopo 1:0 before overcoming Creston College 2:0 in the semi-finals.
The finals of the tournament were against Suid Natal where KEHS 1sts emerged victorious 1:0.
The KEHS U16 side substituted for Port Shepstone High School who were not able to attend. The girls more than held their own and impressed everyone. Their points scored were not included in the final analysis, however.
What an exciting fun-filled day it was. The atmosphere was festive and professional.
We are so grateful to SPAR who did not spare any expenses in ensuring that the tournament was a roaring success. Their generous sponsorship provided abundant nourishment for all present. We would also like to thank the KEHS ground staff for their magnificent work on the school grounds. We appreciate their hard work and dedication. Finally, we extend our deep gratitude to all the officials for their excellent service on the day.
