SP Prize-giving Ceremony

On 24 October, we hosted our Senior Primary Prize-giving, a significant event that celebrated the achievements of our learners in both academics and sports. This year's ceremony was a joyous occasion, bringing together students, parents, and staff to recognise the hard work and dedication demonstrated throughout the year.

In Academics, Grade 4 saw, Bjorn Aarons in third place, Kungawo Mafunda in second place, and Leah da Silva taking first place. In Grade 5, Douw Nel earned third place, Franco Marx came second, and David Abraham achieved first place. The accolades continued in Grade 6, where Zander Barnard was in third place, Maruzé Needham in second place, and Lana Enslin in first place. In Grade 7, Sinelizwi Skemane, Avuyile Ntabeni, and Sisipho Jija were in third, second, and first place respectively.

Academic Colours were awarded to a select group of learners who maintained an exceptionally high standard of work throughout their Senior Primary phase. They were Refiloe Diaho, Sinelizwi Skemane, Tanatswa Nyathi, Avuyile Ntabeni, and Sisipho Jija.

Sporting achievements were also awarded to our talented athletes. Kiara Laing was named Girls Hockey Player of the Year, while Hlelo Ndawonde received the award for Rugby Player of the Year. Emihle Luphalule was honoured as Netball Player of the Year, and Sibusiso Nkumbesi was recognised as Cricket Player of the Year. Jaeron Dickens was awarded both Soccer Player of the Year and Boys Hockey Player of the Year. Luvo Mvimbi was named Best Boy Athlete of the Year, and Kiara Laing received the title of Best Girl Athlete. The Best Sportsperson of the Year awards went to Jaeron Dickens for the boys and Clinae Strydom for the girls. Kungawo Mafunda was acknowledged for the Best Sporting Achievement of the Year, and Clinae Strydom also received the James Freemantle Award for Good Fellowship for her contributions to the school community.

We proudly announced our monitors for 2025, with Zander Barnard and Lana Enslin serving as Head Monitors. The Deputy Monitors are Ezra Williams and Tamary Mandiwanzira. Their dedicated team of monitors includes Lodwa Bidla, Gerbrand Bronkhorst, Quinell Gunkel, Khalalelo Lebenya, Emihle Luphalule, Snend Mbobo, Miyolo Mfenyana, Uhuru Motsapi, Michelle Moyo, Sotha Mxuma, Maruzé Needham, Akhona Ngcizela, Sibusiso Nkumbesi, Nkazimlo Nonjiji, Iminam Nonkonela, Maxine Peters, Kendra Phillips, Osi Shibani, Asiphile Sonjica, Kungawo Spamla, and Yolo Zulu.

AVT/SACSSA National Challenge

Seventeen athletes represented King Edward High School at the AVT/SACSSA National Athletics Challenge held on 26 October in Sasolburg. Our athletes brought home an impressive total of nine medals from this prestigious event. Mivuyo Ncgaweni won gold in the u/11 girls’ turbo javelin, while Ovayo Diko, Junior Mncadi, Fatso Letseka, and Gqama Dzingwe secured silver medals in various events. Kungawo Mafunda and Sisiphosethu Nomnqa added to the tally with bronze medals, while Tania Mandiwanzira and Jayda Vezasie achieved gold and silver medals in their respective relays.
