Grade 7 Tour
Our Grade 7 learners embarked on an unforgettable tour from 13 to 22 September, travelling through some of South Africa’s most iconic towns and landscapes. Their journey began in Graaff-Reinet on 12 September, where they admired the stately “Grotekerk”, a handsome church built in 1886 - 1887 and recognised as a heritage site at the very heart of the town.
On 14 September they left Graaff-Reinet, making their way through the vast Karoo towards Hartenbos. Along the way, they paused to visit the church in Aberdeen, built in 1907 and explored the towns of Willowmore and Uniondale. Crossing the dramatic Outeniqua Pass, they finally arrived in Hartenbos, where they enjoyed the thrills of the local waterpark.
The days that followed were packed with adventure. On 15 September they toured the Safari Ostrich Farm, the Cango Wildlife Ranch and the impressive Cango Caves. The next day brought seaside excitement in Mossel Bay with a visit to the Point, a wander through the flea market, time at the Diaz Museum and an energetic round of tenpin bowling.
On 17 September the group enjoyed a memorable Powervan trip over the Outeniqua Pass, followed by the Montagu Pass, known as the oldest gravel pass in South Africa. Stops along the way included the Elvis Blue Coffee Shop, Redberry Farm and the lively Jump 4 Joy. The thrill continued on 18 September with a ziplining adventure at Acrobranch in George.
The highlight of 19 September was a visit to Knysna Elephant Park, Birds of Eden and Monkeyland, before heading to the Storms River Bridge and on to Port Alfred. The following day they learnt about the vital work of the NSRI before exploring the beach and its rock pools in search of sea life. On 21 September a relaxing ferry ride on the Kowie River rounded off their adventure. The following day, 22 September, they returned home with plenty of memories and stories to share.

Sport
Sport at KEHS also saw plenty of action over this busy week. On 18 September our 1st boys’ soccer team faced SMDS, playing with determination but going down 1–3.
On 19 September, our u11 boys travelled to the Ball in the Berg Hockey Festival. It was a challenging day on the field, with our team drawing 0–0 against both UPS1 and UPS2 but losing to KJS1, KJS2 and SPC.
The following day, 20 September, KEHS was again represented at the Ball in the Berg Festival, this time by our u7 to u9 boys’ hockey and girls’ soccer teams. Our youngest hockey players gave their all, with our u7’s managing a draw against UPS but losing their remaining matches. Our u8’s fought hard, celebrating a 1–0 victory against UPS, though they were unable to overcome SPC and KJS. Our u9 boys had some exciting encounters, finishing with a strong 2–0 win against UPS1, a hard-fought draw with both KJS and UPS2 but a loss to SPC.
Our girls shone brightly on the soccer field. Our u7 team claimed two fine victories, beating SPC 3–0 and UPS 3–0, after a tough loss against KJS. Our u8 girls added to the excitement with three impressive results: a 1–1 draw against KJS, followed by wins of 1–0 against UPS and 1–0 against SPC. Our u9 girls also showed great resilience, drawing against both UPS and KJS, losing narrowly to UPS but celebrating a 2–0 win over SPC.
The past week was filled with both educational experiences and sporting spirit, leaving our learners enriched, energised and ready for the final stretch of the term.
