Public Speaking

On Wednesday, 16 May, King Edward held its annual internal public speaking competition in the main hall. There were 9 contestants between the ages of 14 and 17. All the participants handled the prepared speeches remarkably well, demonstrating that they had prepared very thoroughly for their speeches. The unprepared speeches were preceded by a brief musical interlude of piano playing. A beautiful solo performance by Catherine Wachira was followed by a lovely musical duet by Joaquim Kok and Songezo Mcinga. Each of the participants tackled their unprepared topics brilliantly demonstrating great impromptu skills. While the judges were making their final decisions we enjoyed a wonderful performance by the musical band, Mercury, which consisted of guitar players Andrew Kandan, and Adtiya Nair and Zukisa Fikeni as the lead singer. Eventually the judges were ready to announce the results of the competition and the crowd awaited with bated breath. The winner of the competition was Aleta Sibi. Second place went to Georgia Evangelellis and the most promising speaker award went to Bocha Thipa.
