Soccer & Netball

The week began on 11 August with our SP boys’ soccer teams facing Kokstad Junior School. Our u11 boys secured a 1–0 victory, while our u13’s played out a hard-fought 0–0 draw. The following day saw our u16 boys in action against Bergview College, where we triumphed 4–2 in an entertaining encounter. That same afternoon, our Fast 5 netball team dominated their fixture against Bergview with a 46–2 victory.

SP Matat Schools Athletics Meeting

On 13 August, Bergview hosted the SP Matat Schools Athletics Meeting, with Bergview, St Monica’s, and Focused joining KEHS in a day of spirited competition. KEHS athletes excelled, taking home the majority of the individual honours. Highlights included Oyisa Mbathani being named Best u10 Girl, Kungawo Mafunda winning Best u11 Girl with Leah da Silva as runner-up. Ovayo Diko earned Best u12 Girl, with Mivuyo Ngcaweni as runner-up. In the u13 category, Michelle Moyo claimed the title while Tamary Mandiwanzira finished runner-up. Amongst the boys, Cowan Canham was awarded Best u10 Boy with Zack Myers as runner-up. Lubanzi Mbobo topped the u11 group and Devonté van Vollenhoven was named Best u12 Boy, with Azoma Mkolokotho following closely behind. Special accolades went to Kungawo Mafunda, who received Junior Victrix Ludorum, Lubanzi Mbobo, who was named Junior Victor Ludorum and Ovayo Diko, who was honoured as Senior Victrix Ludorum. KEHS proudly emerged as the overall winning school of the day.

Our JP soccer teams travelled to Rivermead for fixtures for both boys’ and girls’ on 14 August. Our u7 girls drew 0–0, while our u8 and u9 girls impressed with 2–0 victories. Our boys’ results were more mixed, with the u7’s and u8’s both narrowly losing 0–1, while our u9’s held their opponents to a 1–1 draw.

HS Interschool’s Athletics Meeting

The week continued on 15 August at the HS Interschool’s Athletics Meeting, hosted by SPC, where KEHS secured a strong second place out of seven participating schools. Individual achievements included Talia Aarons being named runner-up for Best u14 Girl and Mihle Sijeku as runner-up for Best u14 Boy. Oreboloke Moorosi was crowned Best u15 Boy with Ngcali Matheza as runner-up in the same category. At u17 level, Tania Mandiwanzira shone as Best Girl, while Junior Mncadi took the Best Boy title, with Takudswa Magebede close behind as runner-up. Senior honours were awarded to Tania Mandiwanzira as Senior Victrix Ludorum and Junior Mncadi as Senior Victor Ludorum.

7’s Rugby & 1st Soccer

On 16 August, KEHS took part in the Amanzimtoti 7’s Rugby Tournament. The team started strongly with a 12–7 victory over Werda, but later lost to the host side, Amanzimtoti. That same day, our first boys’ and girls’ soccer teams competed at Kokstad College 1st Soccer Festival. Our girls began with a 1–0 win over SMDS but were edged out 0–1 by Kokstad College. Despite progressing to the semi-finals, they were defeated 0–2 by Mount Currie. Our boys’ team opened with a convincing 2–0 win against SPC, but lost their next two matches, 1–2 to SMDS and 1–2 to Kokstad College.

It was a week filled with excellent performances and we congratulate all the players and athletes who represented the school so well.
