KEHS Inter-House Athletics Meeting

On 4 and 5 August, we held our exciting annual KEHS Inter-House Athletics Meeting. Our athletes competed with great determination, cheered on by enthusiastic housemates and supporters. Graham House claimed the title of overall champions while Melville lifted the coveted Spirit Cup.

The Best Age Group Athletes were as follows: u6 – Lebona Tyika, u7 – Keandra Phillips, u8 – Molemo Moerane, u9 – Lukhona Mamve, u10 – Oyisa Mbathani, u11 – Kungawo Mafunda, u12 – Ovayo Diko, u13 – Nkazimlo Nonjiji, u14 – Talia Aarons, u15 – Iminathi Ntshobane, u17 – Junior Mncadi and u19 – Faith Ntaote.
The Victrix and Victor Ludorum titles were awarded as follows; in the SP junior category, the honours went to Kungawo Mafunda and Cowan Canham, while in the SP senior category they went to Ovayo Diko and Nkazimlo Nonjiji. The HS junior awards were claimed by Talia Aarons and Iminathi Ntshobane and the HS senior awards by Jayda Vezasie and Junior Mncadi.

Twelve new records were set; Ontlotlile Matsoele ran the girls’ u6 80m in 15.50 seconds. Reotshepile Mbulawa clocked 10.03 seconds in the girls’ u8 60m. In the boys’ u8 600m, Molemo Moerane recorded a time of 2:09.28, followed closely by Jadon van Wyk with 2:10.34. Alaka’i Wagner broke the boys’ u8 60m record with 9.69 seconds. Cade Marais threw 19.64 metres in the boys’ u9 turbo javelin, while Lere Tyika set a new boys’ u9 600m record at 2:04.66. Thothokiso Motseki achieved 14.00 metres in the girls’ u10 turbo javelin and Mivuyo Ngcaweni threw 23.76 metres in the girls’ u12 discus. Ovayo Diko ran the girls’ u12 150m in 21.32 seconds. The Graham boys’ u7 relay team completed the 4x80m in 58.72 seconds and the Melville boys’ u8 team ran the same event in 54.24 seconds.

KZNCSSA Zonal Athletics Trials

KEHS athletes once again excelled on a bigger stage at the KZNCSSA South Durban Zonal Athletics Trials, held on 9 August. Out of the 149 KEHS participants, our athletes brought home an impressive 47 first places, 61 second places, and 69 third places. KEHS finished first overall out of 12 competing schools and celebrated nine new records. The new record holders were Leah da Silva (u11 turbo javelin), Reotshepile Mbulawa (u8 60m), Lere Tyika (u9 600m), Qiana Haddon-Davies (u8 turbo javelin), Laytham Tatchell (u9 600m), Mivuyo Ncgweni (u12 discus), Niki Enslin (u10 high jump), Iminathi Ntshobane (u16 800m) and Liyema Canca (u16 shot put).

Top honours went to Senior Victor Ludorum (14–19 years) winner Reinhard Mulder, who triumphed in the hammer, discus, and shot put events. Runner-up Junior Victrix Ludorum (10–13 years) was awarded to Ovayo Diko, while the runner-up Junior Victor Ludorum (6–9 years) was Lere Tyika. The runner-up Junior Victor Ludorum (10–13 years) went to Lubanzi Mbobo.
