It has been a week filled with excitement, talent and achievements at KEHS, with highlights ranging from a sparkling school production to outstanding sporting success on the field and track.
“Rock Bottom”
From 25–27 August, our Senior Primary phase delighted audiences with their production of Rock Bottom. After many hours of rehearsal and hard work, the cast and crew treated us all to a lively performance that brought plenty of laughter and left a lasting impression. It was a truly memorable experience, emphasising the creativity and dedication of our young performers and staff.
Soccer
On 26 August, our u16 boys’ and girls’ soccer teams took on Matat Secondary. Both matches were closely contested, with the girls’ team drawing 3–3 and the boys finishing 0–0 in a goalless draw.
Our younger age groups were in action on 28 August against Bergview College, with spirited play from both the boys and girls. Our u7 girls’ secured a confident 3–0 win, while our u8 and u9 girls’ teams fought hard but were narrowly beaten. Our boys’ teams produced plenty of action, with our u7’s claiming a 3–1 win and our u8’s a 7–0 victory. Our u9 squads showed great determination, with KEHS1 going down 0–3, while KEHS2 secured a 2–1 win.
Also on 28 August, our u16 boys faced SMDS and impressed with a 4–1 victory.
KZNCSSA U7 – U19 Provincial Athletics Championship Meeting
The week culminated in a major highlight as 120 KEHS athletes represented South Durban at the KZNCSSA Provincial Athletics Championship, held on 29–30 August. Our athletes excelled, winning an impressive 50 medals in total – 12 gold, 17 silver and 21 bronze – while also setting new benchmarks. Ovayo Diko (u12 150m) and Mivuyo Ngcweni (u12 javelin) set new records, while Kungawo Mafunda (u11 high jump) equalled the existing record.
Remarkably, 60 of our learners qualified to represent KwaZulu-Natal at the SACSSA National Athletics Invitational Meeting. Five of our athletes not only brought home medals in their individual events, but their outstanding performances also earned them a place among the overall top 30 performers at this meeting. For the girls, Kungawo Mafunda was ranked 6th overall for her u11 high jump. Ovayo Diko achieved 20th overall for the u12 150m and 26th overall for the u12 100m, while Leah da Silva secured 27th overall for the u11 turbo javelin. Among the boys, Reinhard Mulder was placed 10th overall for the u20 hammer throw, and Junior Mncadi achieved 20th overall for the u17 high jump.
