Thursday evening afforded us the opportunity to reflect and celebrate the achievements of the King Edward High School community. We were privileged to have as guest speakers Ms Sissie Matela and Mrs Nicky Mcleod, both of whom have received international acclaim for the work that they have done in the rural areas of Matatiele. Several of our learners entertained us with musical items: a piano piece by Rebecca de Burgh and vocal items by Anathi Madikizela, Rebecca de Burgh, Thabelo Matela and Olothando Madikizela. Following the girls was Mr Harrison’s address which was, as always, a highlight.

Learners who have achieved well during the course of the year were recognised. It was astounding to see the number of learners who have represented district and provincial teams. Aleta Sibi received the Brent Harrison Trophy as the highest academic achiever in Grade 12 for her average of 94%. The award for Best Sporting Achievement in the High School was shared by Kayla Harris and Aaron Lombard. Kayla was also awarded the Eugene Hayes Trophy for Sportsmanship. Olwethu Dlamini received the good Fellowship Award while Etandwa Guda’s mother was on hand to receive the Dux Trophy on his behalf as the Top Achiever from the school in the 2018 Matric Examination.

Another highlight of the evening was the announcement of the 2020 Student Leaders. This group of students will be led by Deputies - Unam Sotshongaye and Yolanda Matubatuba and Heads - Ethan Duminy and Georgia Evangellelis.
